Today we celebrate 40 years of that fantastic Mel Brooks classic Blazing Saddles!
To celebrate, we’re sharing this Django Unchained remake of a Blazing Saddles trailer. Hey, if this movie’s (and by extension, fans, are) not offending someone, we’re not doing it right:
Can you believe it? 40 Years of Blazing Saddles!
For an excellent piece on the social/cultural impact Blazing Saddles has made in our world, check out NPR’s ‘Blazing Saddles,’ The Best Interracial Buddy Comedy, Turns 40. The films was written, directed, and even included Mel Brooks, the Yiddish comedian who has given the world several comedic gifts such as Young Frankenstein, History of the World: Part 1 (still waiting on Part 2, Brooks), Spaceballs, Robin Hood: Men in Tights and dozens of others. The man is a comedic genius while all the same while drawing attention to real social issues such as racism, stereotypes, social tolerance, and he sprinkles in countless jokes for the history buff as well as the pop culture nerd.
We could go on, but we’ll stop there for now. And just so you can relive some of your favorite scenes, here’s a link to a YouTube Blazing Saddles Playlist.
