Neil Gaiman’s American Gods deserves the best production quality, and I’m not so sure it will get it, now.
As one of my personal favorite books, I already had mixed feelings about how a TV show adaptation might ‘ruin’ my well-imagined world of men and mystery. Now, with the announcement that HBO is no longer handling the production of the show, doubt continues to grow.
Today, FreemantleMedia (American Idol, The X Factor) has announced that they finalized the rights to turn this award-winning depiction of myth, religion, and vice into a television production. While it is not new news that HBO dropped the production of this show, it is not encouraging to have a ‘lesser-known’ company pick it up. I seriously hope it does not turn out like The Legend of the Seeker!
Thinking positively, Neil Gaiman wrote The Doctor’s Wife which is an all-time favorite, so if he has a big hand in the script this show might be amazing. Basically, it comes down to this: I’ll watch the show no matter what, but it will be with a bit of trepidation.
