An Open Letter to Carrie Fisher

Image Credit Like most Star Wars fans, and particularly other female Star Wars fans, I was fond of Princess Leia. I really first discovered Star Wars in third grade and it was nice to actually have a woman role model in fantasy/sci-fi. As the chubby girl, I never actually got to play Princess Leia, that was decidedly for the skinnier friend of the group to play, but I appreciated Leia’s presence nonetheless. As I got older and still loved and rewatched¬†Star Wars, I realized just…

DC Unveils Aquaman and We’re OK With It

ZackSnyder drops a hydrogen bomb in the form of Jason Momoa as Aquaman, and we’re pleasantly surprised. Aquaman is typically treated as the butt of the joke of DC superheroes. No, no, you know what? I’d go as far as to say he’s the butt of the joke of all superheroes. Are there worse superheroes? Absolutely, no doubt. But unfortunately none are as famous as Aquaman. What is his magical power? He can control fish? Whatever. (Image Source) Oh…shit. This isn’t some plastic blonde hair…

Benedict Cumberbatch to Play Doctor Strange

It’s real! It’s confirmed! Benedict Cumberbatch is set to join the elite ranks of of Marvel men in Doctor Strange. (Image Source) We love Benedict Cumberbatch in everything he does, but perhaps he didn’t wow us more than when he played Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness. There was action, he was his usual despicable self, and we loved it. Now it’s been confirmed that the very same man is set to play Doctor Steven Strange in Marvel’s upcoming Phase 3 Doctor Strange film franchise.…

The Hanging Tree

Jennifer Lawrence Sings The Hanging Tree

Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen singing ‘The Hanging Tree’ is one instance where the movie did the book incredible justice

If you haven’t seen Mockingjay Part 1 this clip won’t ruin anything for you, but it just might get you super excited for this particular scene!

There’s a moment in the book where Katniss is sitting in a tranquil outdoor setting in District 13 and is asked by one of her entourage to sing. She thinks about it for a moment and then starts to sing the perfect song at the right time.

It goes to show the Girl on Fire is the voice of the revolution.

While I personally have qualms with the movie, it is undeniable that this particular scene, while itself somewhat unimportant in the book, was goose-bump inducing in the theater. The studio did a brilliant job transitioning Suzanne Collins song from paper to screen and made ‘The Hanging Tree’ the vital part of the story that the author wanted it to be. Hats of to Lionsgate for making this moment chilling.

Not only that, but ‘The Hanging Tree’ has put our favorite leading lady Jennifer Lawrence on Billboards top 100 chart.
