How I Met Your Mother fans have a new mother to meet — and it’s not going to take nine years either!
Fans can get excited! Greta Gerwig, of Frances Ha fame, has been selected to play the Peter Pan-like Sally for the “How I Met Your Mother” (HIMYM) spinoff, “How I Met Your Dad.” The Multi-talented Gerwig will follow of the footsteps of HIMYM’s Josh Radnor by writing and producing for the new show, as well as starring in it. This will be the first major television role for Gerwig.
Carter Bays, Craig Thomas (creators of HIMYM) and Emily Spivey (creator of “Up All Night”) will helm the series while Pamela Fryman, longtime director of HIMYM, will direct the pilot. Unlike “How I Met Your Mother,” which began with a very single Ted Mosby seeing a girl from across a crowded room and falling desperately in love, “How I Met Your Dad” will begin with Sally in the complete opposite situation. Recently married and increasingly disenchanted with her relationship, as well as her career, Sally finds herself in a quarter life crisis. The show will follow the heroine as she reevaluates her marriage and her future with the support of her brother, Danny, and close friends, Todd, Juliet, and Frank.
Unsure about Gerwig’s mad skillz? The actress has co-written two films, and earned a Golden Globe nomination for her role in the 2012 comedy, Frances Ha. While the pilot has yet to be picked up, given HIMYM’s success coupled with Gerwig’s talent, it’s only a matter of time.
