Fans of “A New Normal” can look forward to this new comedy starring Elisha Cuthbert and Nick Zano from NBC and Ellen Degeneres.
When “A New Normal” was canceled May of 2013 after just one season, NBC recruited Ellen Degeneres and her company (A Very Good Production) to create a new LGBT themed comedy, called “One Big Happy.” With a feeling reminiscent of “Will and Grace,” the new sitcom centers around two roommates: Lizzy, a lesbian (played by Cuthbert), and her straight best friend (Zano). When the pair decide to have a baby together via artificial insemination, they think it’s over for them in the Love Department. Sure enough, shortly after getting the positive sign, Zano’s character falls head over heels for and quickly marries the love of his life.
The idea certainly sounds rife with possibilities for both humor and drama. With Ellen Degeneres on board as Co-Executive Producer, Larkable is hoping we’ll get the (tasteful) best of both worlds. The pilot is being penned by Liz Feldman, who has worked with Degeneres previously and currently writes for the CBS comedy, “2 Broke Girls.” Scott Ellis will direct the project.
Cuthbert got her break as Jack Bauer’s daughter in the FOX drama, “24” and recently starred in the critically acclaimed show “Happy Endings” where she acted alongside Zano, who appeared for a plot arc.
“One Big Happy” is slotted to premier on NBC Fall of 2014.
