Hollywood Sweetheart Shines in this Trailer, But Will The Newest Hollywood Saga Stand a Chance Against The Hunger Games?

Divergent

The latest of the dystopian adventure novels to be turned into a movie, Divergent hits theaters this spring — check out the final trailer!

Fans of this bestselling novel by Veronica Roth, have been anxious for months to see if Divergent conforms to the new trend of honest movie adaptations. The original plot is a well-woven story of self-discovery and first love in the midst of betrayal and societal warfare. Is it the most relatable plot line? Not necessarily, but then again, neither is The Hunger Games. The key here is relevancy. Movie-goers are obsessed right now with these “The little guy takes on the (oppressive) system” coupled with the typical good-versus-evil flicks and Divergent, translated to the screen properly, plays right into that genre. When asked about the differences between the book and the movie, Shailene Woodley gave this reassuring response,

“It’s different in the sense that obviously, the book is what, 400 pages? The script is
90 pages and there are things in the book that logic wise wouldn’t make sense in a
theatrical way so we had to switch the way we are presenting it, because logically it
didn’t line up…it has to be different. I mean there’s some things about the book I
miss, I think their relationship in the book is slightly different. But obviously
there’s only a certain amount of scenes that we can play in the movie and so we had
to pick the most important ones. But it’s good guys, don’t worry.”

Luckily, trailers are pretty promising that screenwriters, Evan Daugherty and Vanessa Taylor, stayed true to Roth’s original tale. Director, Neil Burger, has proved himself talented with hits like The Illusionist (2006) and Limitless (2011) and even the stars, Theo James and Shailene Woodley, despite their age have a track record of investing themselves wholeheartedly into their work. This writers opinion? Summit should have another mega-franchise on their hands in no time. Divergent promises a thrilling adventure for audiences and fans are itching to see the narrative of Tris Prior (Woodley) and Four (James) play out on the silver screen.
