Spoiler Alert: If you genuinely feel like you have no idea what Marvel is rolling out with the next couple of Avenger-Member movies and you don’t want to know, stop reading now! Otherwise, continue:
We’re all looking forward to Captain America: The Winter Soldier because it really looks like Chris Evans and company are bringing their A-game.
Marvel has done some pre-screening for executives, producers and test audiences, and while most of them are keeping quiet about the specific details, rumors have been running that following the Captain America credits, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver make their movie debuts. Scarlet Witch will be played by Elizabeth Olsen, and the other “twin” is played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Both actors are already signed on to play these roles in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, directed by Joss Whedon.
This wouldn’t be a big deal except that Quicksilver is also known to be appearing in X-Men: Days of Future Past, and it’s not the same actor. So how are audiences going to react to this? Are we all going to be cool with the same superhero on screen with two different faces at once? We’re used to characters switching up looks; things happen or roles don’t work out, but it’s never been simultaneous. It’s definitely…weird.
Days of Future Past claims that Quicksilver was always in their script, so this rumored post credit debut might be Marvel studios beating Fox to the punch by revealing their Quicksilver on screen first. Clever planning, seeing that Captain is coming to audiences more than a month sooner than Xavier’s gang, and it’s usually the first impression that sticks the best (that’s not hard science, but it’s generally how that goes).
All in all, the spilled beans on the pre-screening spell out that the new Captain America is really, really good. Like, possibly Marvel’s best film to date, which is a mighty hefty claim.
