A little over a year ago wrapped one of the most impressive youtube series we’ve ever had the pleasure of viewing…and they’ve just released an update! The incredible youtube series, co-produced by Bernie Su and Hank Green (of Vlogbrothers fame), launched back in March of 2012 as a modern retelling of the Jane Austen classic, Pride and Prejudice. Starring the amazingly talented Ashley Clements as Lizzie Bennet, a 24 year old mass communications grad student vlogging her way to her thesis, The Lizzie Bennet Diaries was a masterful,…
So you’ve never read the series (A Song of Ice and Fire), but you love Game of Thrones
…yet no matter how thorough, the show creators can’t give you all the details of that rich background George R.R. Martin has created. It just can’t happen in 10 episodes at an hour long each. Which is something of a shame because there’s a lot of really fascinating subplots which occur in the book that, naturally, don’t make the cut to adaptation. Sometimes that’ll leave you with questions, and sometimes it leaves you entirely ignorant of pretty cool extraneous info.
Prime example? The Wildlings. There’s plenty which is hinted at and revealed about the self-titled “Free People” during Jon Snow’s time with them in season 3, and so far in Season 4, we’ve even met with those freaky cannibalistic Thenns. But did you know the Thenns aren’t actually Wildlings? Or they are to people South of The Wall, but they don’t identify with The Free People. Sound confusing? Check out our youtube rec of the week from Emergency Awesome! This guy does a phenomenal job breaking down the complex nature of society North of The Wall and filling viewers in on all those tidbits which just weren’t relevant to the Game of Thrones narrative.
Anyone else catch her on Jimmy Fallon tonight? No? That’s cool, we’ve got the best part for you right here.
Jennifer Lawrence plays “Box of Lies” with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show (5/15). Fallon and Lawrence each have to describe the random objects inside mystery boxes — then the other person has to guess whether they’re lying or not. What happens next? Well. It’s just magical.

For a multitude of reasons, of course. Perhaps the most interesting? Forget Microsoft Office Suite, Martin writes on Wordstar 4.0 — running on DOS.
Obviously — inevitably — George R.R. Martin has a secondary computer where the author can browse the internet and check his email, but for writing his thousand page epics for A Song of Fire and Ice? Wordstar 4.0 offers a secluded space free of distractions like those pesky spellchecks or the random facebook/reddit/livejournal detours. Catch Martin’s take on his unusual writing habits in an interview with late night talk show host Conan.
We love this animated short on the upcoming trial of beloved Game of Thrones character, Tyrion Lannister. You will too.
A sister who wants him dead, a father acting as judge who also wants him dead, his wife gone and no witness willing to come forward — George R.R. Martin certainly made things look bleak for Tyrion when he wrote this bit. How will Tyrion make out in the upcoming trial? One youtube user has an idea…
“Just days away from the actual airing of the HBO episode, Tyrion is brought to trial in this animated skit for slaying the king, but how will he defend himself when everyone he trusts already fled King’s Landing?”
Game of Thrones, episode 6: “The Laws of Gods and Men” airs this Sunday night on HBO at 9pm/8C.
Who doesn’t adore comedian Billy Eichner these days? Between his recrurring roles on Parks and Rec, and Bob’s Burgers combined with his Funny or Die series “Billy on the Street,” we’re seeing more of Eichner than ever before. And we’re loving every second of it. Eichner’s particular brand of funny is quirky, a little brash and definitely utilizes his full vocal volume range. In his most recent minisode of “Billy on the Street,” Eichner met up with the talented Olivia Wilde. They discuss her sex life with fiancee,…
We’ve been curious as to what Fox had in mind for the Batman Prequel ever since it was announced earlier this year, now they’ve finally given us a glimpse to what’s in store. And personally? This writer isn’t terribly disappointed. Granted, I’m not comic book fanatic so my knowledge of Gotham and Batman, the Riddler, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, and Penguin is limited to cheesy reruns of Adam West’s 1966 interpretation of the masked vigilante — and, of course, movies released in the last 20 years.…
Could it be? Is it true? Heck yes! Emma Stone is one lean, mean, lip syncing machine!
In case you needed any other reason to love the funny, beautiful and very talented Emma Stone, she showed Jimmy Fallon up on his lip sync battle quite unlike anyone else. You may ask, “Even better than Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s lip sync battle?” to which I respond…possibly. This girl doesn’t hold back.
And so please enjoy the show!
Presumably in honor of Doctor Who’s 50th Anniversary, talented fan Richard Swarbrick created an absolutely beautiful animated tribute.
We present, “50 Years in Time and Space”.
All the feels.
Check out more of Swarbrick’s phenomenal work, including “The Cats of Youtube,” and “Football Brought to Life” here!
The best GotG trailer to date, don’t you agree? When this writer saw the first Guardians of the Galaxy trailer, I was immediately worried. Now, not so much. There aren’t a lot of changes to this trailer, but it’s just enough of a perception step away that already the movie looks a whole lot more appealing than it originally did. What are your thoughts? Do you like the new teaser? Hate it?
Last week (4/1), news broke that film rights for Eleanor and Park had been purchased by Dreamworks studios (we’re cautiously optimistic about that). Meanwhile, in one, tiny corner of the internet, another work from author Rainbow Rowell has already made it on film (and to a computer near you) in a winsome adaptation of Rowell’s second novel, Fangirl. For those of you unfamiliar with Fangirl, for this writer, it was even better than Eleanor and Park — if you can believe that. If you thought the love story of Rowell’s…
