The Hanging Tree

Jennifer Lawrence Sings The Hanging Tree

Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen singing ‘The Hanging Tree’ is one instance where the movie did the book incredible justice

If you haven’t seen Mockingjay Part 1 this clip won’t ruin anything for you, but it just might get you super excited for this particular scene!

There’s a moment in the book where Katniss is sitting in a tranquil outdoor setting in District 13 and is asked by one of her entourage to sing. She thinks about it for a moment and then starts to sing the perfect song at the right time.

It goes to show the Girl on Fire is the voice of the revolution.

While I personally have qualms with the movie, it is undeniable that this particular scene, while itself somewhat unimportant in the book, was goose-bump inducing in the theater. The studio did a brilliant job transitioning Suzanne Collins song from paper to screen and made ‘The Hanging Tree’ the vital part of the story that the author wanted it to be. Hats of to Lionsgate for making this moment chilling.

Not only that, but ‘The Hanging Tree’ has put our favorite leading lady Jennifer Lawrence on Billboards top 100 chart.
