10 Things That Happen When You Marathon 3 Seasons of Big Bang Theory in 3 Days

Binge-watching. Is there any activity better known by Millenials? When we aren’t busy working those obnoxious service jobs or updating Facebook, browsing the latest addition on Netflix is likely your next stop (as a fellow Millenial, this observation is made without judgement). And what’s wrong with that? Well, in this weather: absolutely nothing. But sometimes, coming off a three day binge can be the hardest part.  You find yourself waiting for the wheezing groan of the TARDIS in the garden outside. You imagine intricate deductions…

Khal Drogo: A Cautionary Tale in the Value of Neosporin

Jimmy Kimmel and Jason Mamoa discuss the most accurate and anticlimactic death yet on “Game of Thrones” Some could say that the death of the hulking Khal Drogo from George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire saga is a cautionary tale about disregarding the value of antiseptic. The Dothraki War Lord wins an impressive battle with an unruly soldier, only to succumb to infection from a nick in the chest left by an errant arahk (the scythe-like blade favored by Dothraki). Of course, there’s the…

What It’s Like to Live Spoiler-Free Post “Game of Thrones”

In a world of shocked Social Media Enthusiasts determined to ruin it for you. Last night marked the grand finale of the fourth season of “Game of Thrones” and, according to the World Wide Web, it was a shocker. As for this writer? Well, I’m comfortable assuming it was chock full of those classic George R.R. Martin induced “WTF Moments.” But I can’t technically say that I know with any certainty. Because I haven’t seen that last four episodes of the season. Because  reasons. But…

Father’s Day is Sunday…And So Is The Game of Thrones Finale

HBO wants to wish Dad’s everywhere a Happy Father’s Day, and also: don’t forget to tune in for the grand, sweeping season finale of Game of Thrones.

Like we really needed the reminder.  As season four of the epic fantasy series wraps up,  show creators Dan Weiss and David Benioff have been persistent in letting people know that this finale is the “best finale [they’ve] ever done, bar none.” In fact, the episode in question — chillingly titled “The Children” — has been submitted for two Emmy’s: Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup. Though every episode of this phenomenal season has set a new viewing record every week, “The Children” is the first ever submitted for Emmy consideration.  Clearly, Weiss and Benioff are fairly confident that the cast and crew have truly outdone themselves this time.  In a statement, the duo praised the hard work of everyone on set saying, “The performances from our cast, the direction from Alex Graves, the VFX work, the new cues from Ramin Djawadi – all of it came together in perhaps the finest hour we’ve produced.”

All this to say, get your Father’s Day priorities straight and be ready to tune in for the 66 minute finale, this sunday on HBO at 9pm/8c. Happy Father’s Day…Winter is Coming.

Meanwhile, On Tumblr: Sleeping Beauty is the New Regina George

Who doesn’t love a good “Mean Girls” reference every now and then? The Tumblr account Dopey Beauty started this meme/gif of Mean Girl Aurora. And it is a beautiful thing. We’re pretty sure even Tina Fey would be amused by what she’s inspired. Probably. Buzzfeed loves Mean Girl Aurora so much they have an entire article featuring their favorite Sassy Sleeping Beauty insults. We don’t blame them.

Fassbender and McAvoy Love Your Fanfiction

In the last several years, it would seem that fanfiction has taken on a life of its own. Evidenced by the massive success of “50 Shades of Grey,” and the upcoming publication of a One Direction fanfic called “After.” And of course, long before fanfics were published, plenty of big authors like Cassandra Clare got their start on sites like fanfiction.net. For many rabid fangirls (this author included), fanfiction wasn’t some big mystery. For many actors and talk show hosts? It might have been —…

Youtube Rec: That Awkward Moment When…

The Fan-Made Doctor Who Trailer for Series 8 is better than the Official Trailer for Series 8. From the same John Smith who brought us that infamous “WhoLock” Trailer, comes a teaser for new “Doctor Who” which supersedes, by far, that measly 15-second trailer from two weeks ago via the BBC. Already at almost 400,000 views on youtube, there’s a good chance you’ve already seen this one…either way, we’re making sure that you do. Because this is one fan trailer you don’t want to miss. “Doctor…

Three New Reasons to Get Excited for “Star Wars Episode VII”

Twitter and Deadline confirm, Lupita Nyong’O and Gwendoline Christie have joined the cast of the upcoming Star Wars film. We reported last month that writer/director J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan had teased that, despite a full casting announcement, further announcements had yet to be made. Of course, his video sparked speculation again that previous rumors about Zac Efron’s participation in the movie might be correct after all. Unfortunately, Efron’s casting is not to be, but we’re definitely more pumped to hear confirmation that the brilliant,…

Doctor Who

Breaking: Doctor Who Returns This August!

No specific dates yet, unfortunately, BUT there’s a Doctor Who Series 8 trailer to ease the wait!

Okay, so it’s only 15 seconds…but at this point, it’s better than nothing. Series 8 marks the first season for lifelong Whovian Peter Capaldi, who took over Matt Smith’s role in the 2013 Christmas special. Based on his boyish excitement over the role and his previous roles, it’s safe to assume — Capaldi is going to hit it out of the park this fall.

Lizzie Bennet Diaries

Excuse Us While We Fangirl…The Lizzie Bennet Diaries is Back! (Briefly)

A little over a year ago wrapped one of the most impressive youtube series we’ve ever had the pleasure of viewing…and they’ve just released an update! The incredible youtube series, co-produced by Bernie Su and Hank Green (of Vlogbrothers fame), launched back in March of 2012 as a modern retelling of the Jane Austen classic, Pride and Prejudice. Starring the amazingly talented Ashley Clements as Lizzie Bennet, a 24 year old mass communications grad student vlogging her way to her thesis, The Lizzie Bennet Diaries was a masterful,…

Youtube Rec: Those “Game of Thrones” Wildlings Are Badass…But What Are They Exactly?

So you’ve never read the series (A Song of Ice and Fire), but you love Game of Thrones

…yet no matter how thorough, the show creators can’t give you all the details of that rich background George R.R. Martin has created. It just can’t happen in 10 episodes at an hour long each. Which is something of a shame because there’s a lot of really fascinating subplots which occur in the book that, naturally, don’t make the cut to adaptation. Sometimes that’ll leave you with questions, and sometimes it leaves you entirely ignorant of pretty cool extraneous info.

Prime example? The Wildlings. There’s plenty which is hinted at and revealed about the self-titled “Free People” during Jon Snow’s time with them in season 3, and so far in Season 4, we’ve even met with those freaky cannibalistic Thenns. But did you know the Thenns aren’t actually Wildlings? Or they are to people South of The Wall, but they don’t identify with The Free People. Sound confusing? Check out our youtube rec of the week from Emergency Awesome! This guy does a phenomenal job breaking down the complex nature of society North of The Wall and filling viewers in on all those tidbits which just weren’t relevant to the Game of Thrones narrative.

Bob's Burgers

A Case for The Awkward Glory of Tina Belcher

Over at The Mary Sue, they’re making a terrific case for the fantastic complexity of Bob’s Burgers Tina Belcher In a Sunday Night lineup marked by Seth McFarlane‘s xenophobic, sexist, racist, tongue-in-cheek brand of ironic humor — for some of us, H. Jon Benjamin‘s family comedy is an underrated reprieve. Viewers can tune in and count on seeing a quirky, lower-middle class family taking on their small east coast town in all their awkward glory. You’ve got Linda, who’s willing to cheer on anything that…
