The Internet is all a-buzz about Samuel Anderson: the rising star has officially been announced as a recurring role for our favorite BBC show, Doctor Who!

This writer hasn’t actually seen Samuel Anderson’s better known roles from Emmerdale, Casualty, or Totally Frank, but I certainly like the look of him. There is a Doctor Who air about him, and we’re looking forward to see what his recurring character, Danny Pink, will bring to the table. Doctor Who TV reveals Anderson’s character is another teacher at Coal Hill School where current companion Clara Owsin Oswald teaches.

Samuel Anderson is plenty excited to join the cast. CultBox quoted Anderson saying:

“I was so excited to join Doctor Who I wanted to jump and click my heels, but I was scared I might not come down before filming started! It’s a quintessential part of British culture and I can’t believe I’m part of it. It’s an honour to be able to work alongside Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman and I can’t wait to show people how my character becomes involved with such a fantastic duo!”

There is always a perk to bringing on relatively minor actors to Doctor Who. Oh sure, Catherine Tate, Billie Piper, Christopher Eccelston, Alex Kingston, and David Tennant were all recognizable in one way or another, but they weren’t worldwide household names until Doctor Who. It’s safe to say Doctor Who has kick-started the acting careers of the most recent companions though, which we do love to see. It’s kind of nice coming to a new character with a Tabula Rasa.

To date, I’ve enjoyed most recurring characters. Who didn’t love Captain Jack Harkness? Or Mickey Smith? Or River Song? The nostalgic feeling of familiar faces returning from episode to episode leaves the viewer all warm and fuzzy inside. Besides, we’re off to a great start: just look at that coat! Already an icon in the making. Larkable can’t wait to see what Danny Pink has to offer Clara and the Doctor!
